Comprex™
(pressure wave supercharger)
The pressure wave supercharger (PWS) offers a promising alternative to turbochargers and mechanical compressors. Originally developed in the 1980s, this technology is gaining increasing importance in response to new emission regulations and downsizing requirements for gasoline engines a fascinating boosting device!

The PWS provides extremely rapid response and avoids the typical turbo lag. Thanks to the absence of the so-called pump limit at low engine throughputs, very high boost pressures can be achieved, enabling both downsizing and downspeeding simultaneously. This results in impressive efficiencies exceeding 90%, otherwise only found with large turbochargers.

Moreover, the pressure wave supercharger positively affects cold start emissions since the catalyst can be placed directly in front of the charger. This significantly shortens the warm-up phase, which in turn reduces engine fuel consumption and optimizes performance. The PWS also demonstrates strengths in altitude boosting.

Antrova has further developed the Comprex™ charger to meet the challenges of operational reliability and stringent emission standards. The Comprex™ delivers excellent performance without the need for additional measures such as e-boosters or complex charger combinations.

From small automotive applications to large engines with up to 5 MW output, the pressure wave supercharger is versatile.
